Ingredients
From the quantities below, you can get between 9-12 slices of this delicious cake, needing:
- 300 g of flour, I added 10 g of baking powder to help it rise and become light and fluffy.
- 80 g melted butter can help to create a tender and moist texture in cakes.
- 150 g sugar is primarily added to cake recipes for sweetness, but adding ½ teaspoon of salt, a flavour enhancer. It's helps balance the sweetness of the sugar, creating a more complex and well-rounded flavour.
- 3 eggs. An essential ingredient in cake recipes and play a key role in creating the finished cake's structure, texture, and flavour.
- 180 ml milk is a liquid ingredient that can help to add moisture to the cake.
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder. The addition of cinnamon to an apple cake recipe can enhance the flavour, aroma, and potential health benefits of the cake. Cinnamon and apples are a classic flavour pairing that many people enjoy.
- 1 tablespoon of sunflower oil to grease the baking form.
How to Make the Easy Apple Cake Recipe?
The video below shows how simple this recipe is and that anyone can make it easier.
Make the Batter
The first time I will make the batter for this cake, which is like a thicker pancake batter, like in my cinnamon apple pancakes recipe. I beat the three eggs with added sugar and salt in a bowl until I got a white and foamy composition.
I add the melted butter, stirring until it is incorporated, then the vanilla essence and the milk, mixing further.
In the end, I will add the flour. Together with the baking powder, I will sift over the liquid composition to make it more aerated.
I keep mixing them until the flour is incorporated without lumps. At the end I get a batter like a soft and fluffy cream.
Preparing the Apples
Put the batter aside and start cutting the apples. As you will see, I didn't peel the apples in this recipe; I just removed the spine and cut them into 2-2.5 centimetres (1 inch) thick pieces.
I left the apple parts bigger and didn't slice or grate them. So that you can feel their texture better in the apple cake when you bite into it.
Add the apples to the batter and the cinnamon powder, the apples' best friend, and gently mix them with a spatula or wooden spoon into the dough.
Pour into the Baking Dish
Choose a baking dish; I have a 24 x 24 cm ceramic one. I grease it with sunflower oil (or melted butter) and pour the entire composition into it. Level it with the spatula and arrange the apple pieces to be uniform everywhere.
Baking the Apple Cake
Heat the oven to 180 C (356 F) and bake the dough for 30-35 minutes. Over time, you can test it with the toothpick to see if it is well done, but the apple cake will have a beautiful copper crust on top.
After letting it cool a little, dust it with powdered sugar, and you're done; this was my easy apple cake recipe, and I recommend everyone to try it.
Storage
To store apple cake, follow these steps:
- Allow the apple cake to cool completely before storing it. Keeping the cake still warm can create condensation and cause the crust to become soggy.
- Cover the cake with plastic wrap or aluminium foil. Ensure the wrap or foil touches the surface of the cake to prevent air from getting in and drying out the cake.
- Store the cake in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. This will help to keep the pie fresh and prevent any spoilage.
- If you want to freeze the apple cake, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap or aluminium foil and place it in an airtight container or freezer bag. The pie can be frozen for up to 3 months.
- When you're ready to serve the cake, remove it from the refrigerator or freezer and allow it to come to room temperature before reheating it in the oven. This will help ensure the crust is crispy and the filling is warm and gooey.
Frequently Ask Questions (F.A.Q.)
Some of the best options are firm and hold their shape when cooked. Here are a few popular choices: Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Braeburn or Pink Lady Apples.
Making a realistic apple cake involves paying attention to both the appearance and flavour of the cake. Once the cake has cooled, you can add a layer of cream cheese frosting to simulate the texture of the apple peel and arrange thin slices of apple on top of the frosting to create a realistic-looking apple cake.
Several factors can make an apple cake moist and soft:
-Apples: The moisture in the apples contributes to the overall humidity of the cake. When the apples are baked, they release their natural juices, which add moisture to the cake.
-Oil or butter: Adding oil or butter to the batter helps to keep the cake moist by trapping the moisture inside the cake.
-Brown sugar: Using brown sugar instead of white sugar adds moisture to the cake and helps to keep it soft.
-Buttermilk or yoghurt: Adding buttermilk or yoghurt to the batter helps to make the cake moist and tender.
-Baking powder and baking soda: Using the right amount of baking powder and baking soda can help the cake rise and become light and airy while retaining moisture.
-Eggs: Eggs help to bind the ingredients together and add moisture to the cake.
By incorporating these ingredients into the recipe and following the correct baking techniques, you can achieve a moist and soft apple cake that will surely be a crowd-pleaser.
Serving the Cake
Apple cake can be a great dessert to share with friends and family, and cut the cake into slices and serve it on a platter.
Warm apple cake can be incredibly delicious. You can reheat individual portions in the microwave for a few seconds or warm the whole cake in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes.
You can serve apple cake with toppings like whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, or caramel sauce. These toppings can add extra flavour and texture to the cake.
